LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Fire officials are investigating the cause of an early morning house fire.

Around 2:30 a.m. the Lubbock Fire Department was dispatched to the 3300 block of 55th Street after one of the residents smelled smoke while watching a movie.

Officials are still working to determine the exact cause of the fire, but the fire marshal's office says it started on the back porch.

Cigarettes have not been ruled out.

Tiki torches and power tools were also found on the back porch.

The family dog and cat both died as a result of the fire, but all four residents were safely evacuated and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
