A hospital in Turkey says the first woman to have a successful womb transplant from a dead woman is pregnant.
In a written statement, the doctor of 22-year-old Derya Sert said his patient is two weeks pregnant after successful in-vitro fertilization. In August 2011, Sert was described as a "medical miracle" when she became the first woman to have a successful uterus transplant from a deceased donor.
Sert was born without a uterus and doctors waited a year and a half before implanting the embryo to make sure the organ was functioning properly.
