Getting rid of old or expired medication isn't as easy as throwing it into the trash or flushing it away. That could contaminate the environment or pollute our drinking water. That's why the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center is holding a Medication Clean Out this weekend so they can properly dispose of your old medication.
"What we ask you to do is bring your medications in their original containers and you just drive through and drop them off. Then we take the bottles, de-identify them so that your personal information isn't out there for somebody to take and ship them off and it's incinerated," said Rebecca Tally, a TTUHSC School of Pharmacy student.
So, you can simply drive over to the parking lot of the Health Sciences Center this Saturday, April 27th, from 10 to 2 and drop off your old or unused drugs.
TTUHSC has collected more than 9600 lbs. of old medicine in the 22 times it has hosted this event. All of it is sent to a drug destruction company for proper disposal.
