Mingo's mom did not want him to play football

Posted: Updated:

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - Browns draft pick Barkevious Mingo's mom didn't want him to play football. Now she's proud of her little boy who "likes to eat quarterbacks."

Mingo, the LSU linebacker taken with the No. 6 overall pick by Cleveland in the first round of the NFL draft, was introduced Friday at a news conference at the team's headquarters. Mingo recalled how his mother, Barbara, kept he and his brothers from playing contact sports because she was afraid they would get hurt.

She finally relented and learned quickly she had nothing to worry about - her son was the one inflicting pain.

Mingo, who will wear No. 51 for the Browns, is excited about playing in the pros and "can't wait to get to work."

Blake Sims was good enough to finish his first start at quarterback for Alabama, getting plenty of help from Amari Cooper, T.J. Yeldon and Derrick Henry, and the second-ranked Crimson Tide held off West Virginia...
Blake Sims took a seat on the bench next to Jake Coker after leading Alabama to a score and the two chatted for a few minutes before it was time for the offense to go back on the field.
