LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The West Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department responded to a trailer fire off County Road 8602 and 6500 just after 9 a.m. Sunday.

Fire officials say the homeowners were inside the trailer house with three children when the fire started.

Officials say the father got up and smelled more smoke closer to the children's bedrooms.

The house was ventilated and they were all able to evacuate safely.

The father said there were flames coming from the skirting around the trailer and ripped it off, but fire officials were not able to spot exactly where the fire started.

Officials say that was the only area that was damaged.

Neighbors saw the smoke and called 911. The assistant fire chief for West Carlisle said the situation was "bizarre." They never saw flames, only smoke, and could not identify the source of ignition.

He says the family was lucky.
