Research has established that following a Mediterranean diet has several health benefits.
The latest study of the diet finds that it lowers the risk for memory problems. A study of more than 17,000 adults looked at participants' eating habits and tested their memory and thinking skills. They collected data for four years.
Researchers found that among the healthy participants, those who followed a Mediterranean-style diet had a nearly 20% reduced risk for memory problems over time. However, the benefit did not extend to adults with diabetes.
A Mediterranean diet focuses on greens, fruits, fish and nuts and rarely includes saturated fats, meat and dairy.
