A Hale County police officer accused of assaulting a fellow officer was found not guilty on Wednesday.
Captain Derrick McPherson was indicted in December 2012 after Plainview police say he hit another officer while attempting to subdue an unruly person.
The trial began Monday and concluded with testimony from an officer who witnessed the incident saying he didn't believe excessive force was used.
The jury later came back with a verdict of not guilty.
The Plainview Police Chief says McPherson will be able to return to work as the department's patrol captain.
