LCU commencement takes place this weekend

From Lubbock Christian University:

Lubbock Christian University will hold commencement ceremonies this weekend.  Commencement is divided into two ceremonies – graduate and undergraduate. Starting with the May 2012 commencement, graduate and undergraduate ceremonies were held separately because of the explosive growth LCU has seen in their graduate programs.

The ceremony for graduate students will be Friday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at McDonald Moody Auditorium. Undergraduate commencement will be Saturday, May 5 at 10 a.m. at the Rip Griffin Center which is located at 26th and Chicago.

President Tim Perrin has added a new element to the LCU Undergraduate Commencement for this spring, in which he will introduce a graduating student speaker to make a presentation about their LCU experience. Students have not had the honor to speak at graduation in the past, but President Perrin thought this would be an opportunity for the audience to catch a glimpse of how special LCU is to its students.  Humanities and Political Science student, Kristen Vander-Plas, from Lubbock was selected as the speaker.

Following the student speaker, President Perrin will introduce the featured speaker, Judge James O. Browning.  Browning serves as a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico.  He will receive an honorary doctorate degree from LCU during the ceremony.

This graduating class has 242 graduates – 193 undergraduate and 49 graduate candidates.  Both 2012 Commencement ceremonies are being web-cast live, free of charge. One can watch via computer or IPhone/IPod Touch by following the link at www.LCU.edu/live. Details about both ceremonies are on the LCU.edu site.
