A Lubbock-Cooper student has died of injuries sustained in a five car pileup. According to DPS troopers, traffic on Woodrow Road had slowed down as at least one vehicle waited to turn left onto another county road. That is when the driver of a Lexus approached and plowed into the end of the line causing a chain reaction crash between five vehicles.
17-year-old Andrea Rodriguez was a rear passenger in the vehicle that absorbed the bulk of the impact. AeroCare brought Rodriguez to University Medical Center, where she died Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Lexus, 16-year-old Sarah Akbar-Ali, remains in critical condition, at Covenant Medical Center. 15-year old Andrea Garza is also at Covenant in serious condition. She was a passenger in the second vehicle. At least seven others were involved in the crash, but either suffered no injuries or were treated and released.
