Investors working to bring hockey back to Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Could hockey actually make a return to the Hub City? A group of investors seem to think so. The group is in the beginning stages of bringing an NAHL (North American Hockey League) team to the city.

The Lubbock Cotton Kings and the Texas Tech Hockey Club left the City Bank Coliseum in 2009, basically ending the game of hockey in the area.

The Red Raiders currently play home games in Amarillo and Odessa.

The NAHL currently has teams in Amarillo, Odessa and Wichita Falls. The players in the league average between 16 and 20 years old and are at the beginning of their professional careers.

Texas has become an instant hot spot for the sport of hockey, largely due to the Dallas Stars success over the last two decades.

The investor group is looking to work with the city of Lubbock to come back to the Coliseum, but if not, they are looking into building a new facility on the outskirts of town. This new facility would host Texas Tech Hockey, the new NAHL team, public skating, hockey leagues, figure skating and much more.
