OSU Cowboys win series with a 3-0 shutout over Tech

Texas Tech and No. 19 Oklahoma State were locked in a pitcher's duel for eight innings before the Cowboys scored three runs in the ninth inning to win the game and take the series with a 3-0 victory on Sunday at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

Texas Tech was shutout at home for the first time this season while dropping to 22-26 overall and to 7-14 in Big 12 play. The Cowboys (34-12, 9-8 Big 12) won their third conference series of the season while claiming its first Big 12 road series of the season.

With the game scoreless through eight innings, OSU started the top of the ninth inning with a double to right-center field from Zach Fish and followed with a full-count walk, double and single, which scored all three runs of the game. Rick Stover drove in a run with a double to right field and left fielder Gage Green scored a pair of runs with an RBI single up the middle.

Tech finished with six base hits and left four of six runners on base in scoring position.

Tech starting pitcher Jonny Drozd took the no decision after pitching 7.2 scoreless innings with four hits allowed and four strikeouts while giving up four walks.

OSU starting pitcher Mark Robinette (5-0) earned the win pitching a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts and scattering six base hits.

Tech right-handed reliever Johnathon Tripp (1-2) took the loss allowing the Cowboys first run to score in the ninth inning allowing the leadoff double.

Tech junior left fielder Todd Ritchie was one of five Red Raiders with a base hit in the game while leading the team going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Texas Tech will close its six-game homestand Tuesday, May 7 hosting Dallas Baptist (25-23) for a 3 p.m. first pitch at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
