Imagine Lubbock unveils plan for future of city

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

After almost a year of hearing public input, with thousands of ideas thrown on the table, Imagine Lubbock has announced a rough plan for the future of the city.

Tuesday evening, members of the community gathered at the Cactus Theater on 19th and Buddy Holly for one of the last public hearing events.

Imagine Lubbock says it's narrowed down the thousands of ideas submitted into eight key elements.

Those elements were discussed Tuesday.

Norma Ritz Johnson is the vice president of legislative affairs for the Chamber of Commerce.

She says two of those elements were discussed in great detail during the meeting.

"Economic development, which includes jobs. Also, a lot of people seemed to feel pretty strongly about our downtown. Those are the two areas that we heard the most from, not necessarily the two top priority items," Johnson said.

Johnson says other elements include neighborhoods, education, beautification and image.

There will be one final meeting this summer, where Imagine Lubbock says it will unveil the final product.
