LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Three years ago, on Mother's Day weekend, Sharon Kohout lost her daughter to suicide.

Now she teaches a class called QPR, a mental-health equivalent to CPR, emergency intervention for people considering suicide.

Sharon sat down with KCBD's Karin McCay on Tuesday and debunked some common myths about depression and suicide.

MYTH #1: If you confront a person who is suicidal, it will make them angry and increase the risk.

MYTH #2: If someone wants to kill themselves, it's inevitable.

MYTH #3: Suicidal people share a "personality profile."

If you need help, or if you know a person who is considering suicide, here are some numbers you can call:

QPR - (806) 392-1886

Contact Lubbock - (806) 765-8393
