Drug scare north of the border

Posted: Updated:

An alert from Canada where police in Montreal say they've seized about 400,000 colorful pills that appeared to be marketed toward young people.

The drug is called desmethyl fentanyl and is derived from some sort of pain killer, but is described as having 40 times the strength of heroin.

"The impacts are unpredictable on unsophisticated users - not knowing the impacts of the drugs they are taking not knowing not knowing the mixture of these drugs is going to result in many tragedies," said Dr. Peter Vamos, general director at the Portage Rehabilitation Center.

Four Canadian officers were injured just from handling the pills.

This drug bust was in Montreal, but police say this is a reminder to parents everywhere to educate young people on the dangers of just buying pills on the streets.
