The Board of Trustees for the Lubbock Independent School District has approved a tax rate for 2004 to 2005.
To sum up the changes in one sentence, the budget is less and the tax rate is the same. The total proposed tax rate is $1.6056 with $1.50 of that going toward the general fund and .1056 going toward the debt service fund.
Board President Mark Griffin says the district has less money to work with this year because of the way the state funds public schools."We are going to have a million dollars lees to operate on then we did last year which really speaks to the real need to change the way we fund public education in the state of Texas," said Griffin.
Griffin adds that the tax rate passed Thursday is about the same rate Lubbock has seen the last five years.
