Post ISD student taken into custody for possession of a firearm

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Garza County Sheriff Jerry Morgan confirmed that a male student was taken to the juvenile justice center on Monday after a gun was found at Post High School.

Post ISD Superintendent Michael Comeaux released a statement on Tuesday, saying they received information about a student in possession of a firearm at 11:30 a.m. and called him into the campus office after he returned to the campus after lunch.

Once they confirmed that the student was in possession of a firearm, officers from Garza County Juvenile Probation took him into custody.

Comeaux said, "The threat and incident was immediately resolved by campus officials and law enforcement. Our number one priority is the safety of our students and staff. We are currently cooperating with the Garza County Sheriff's department in the ongoing investigation. We are evaluating current safety procedures to ensure the safety of our students and community as we move forward."
