Driver suffers critical injuries in head-on collision

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A man suffered critical injuries in a three-vehicle accident at 34th & Milwaukee on Wednesday night.

Police say Jay Wesley Stephenson, 40, was driving east on 34th Street near Milwaukee around 7:15 p.m. when he crossed into the center lane and side-swiped a truck, driven by 29-year-old Roland Ray Castaneda. Stephenson's vehicle continued eastbound and hit a Camaro driven by Evan Joseph Thiel, 21, head on.

Thiel was rushed to UMC where he is in critical condition. The other drivers suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Police are still trying to determine why the Stephenson veered into oncoming traffic. They say he has a history of seizures.

They don't believe alcohol or drugs to have been a factor, at this time.
