Cooper defeats Stephenville; paired against Pleasant Grove Wednesday

AUSTIN, TX (KCBD) -

The UIL announced the state semifinals for Wednesday in Austin Sunday morning.

Playing in the state tournament for the first time in eight years, the 9th-ranked Cooper Pirates face the defending 3A champs from Pleasant Grove 1 p.m. Wednesday in Austin.

The other semifinal has Silsbee vs La Grange at 4 p.m.

The winners will meet for the 3A State Championship Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Cooper advanced, winning the regional final with a double header sweep of Stephenville on Thursday.

Pleasant Grove won game 3 over Melissa 8-4 Saturday to stretch their record to six straight state tourneys.

Pleasant Grove has won titles in 2010 and 2012 and was runner up in 2008.
