Texas Tech volleyball coach Don Flora announced the program's 2013 schedule on Monday which features 13 home matches at the United Spirit Arena along with tournament trips to Weber State and Washington State.
"We have developed an exceptional non-conference schedule for this 2013 season," said Flora, who enters his third season on the Tech bench. "We will see several styles of volleyball during our opening four weeks of non-conference action, and we are very pleased with the competition of our of Lone Star Showdown tournament. We believe all of these matches and our solid Big 12 schedule will make for an exceptional season."
The Red Raiders begin the 2013 slate on Aug. 30-31 with four matches at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Weber State. Tech opens its home slate Sept. 3 with the first of two matches against Abilene Christian before traveling to face the Wildcats a week later (Sept. 10).
Tech will make its final road trip for a non-conference tournament on Sept. 6-7 for the Washington State Classic where the Red Raiders will face the host Cougars along with Montana, South Dakota State and Eastern Washington during the two-day tournament.
Montana will travel to Lubbock a week later for the Lone Star Showdown that will also feature Nevada and Cal State Fullerton. The action gets underway with a pair of matches on Sept. 13 and closes the following day when Tech battles Fullerton.
The Red Raiders turn to the road for two more non-conference matches before opening Big 12 Conference play on Sept. 25 at Oklahoma. Tech will face Incarnate Word for the first time in school history on Sept. 17 in San Antonio before heading up I-35 to challenge Texas State the following night.
Iowa State opens up Tech's Big 12 home slate on Oct. 2 in the first of back-to-back matches at the United Spirit Arena as West Virginia will also come to town for an Oct. 5 contest. The Red Raiders will play three of the next four matches on the road with trips to Texas (Oct. 9), TCU (Oct. 12) and Kansas State (Oct. 19) sandwiched around an Oct. 16 meeting with Kansas.
Tech closes the month of October with a non-conference home match against New Mexico on Oct. 23 before wrapping up the first half of league action against Baylor on Oct. 26 at home. The Red Raiders make return trips to Iowa State (Oct. 30) and West Virginia (Nov. 2) before ending the year with four of the last six matches in Lubbock.
Tech wraps the regular season with home matches against Kansas State (Nov. 6), Texas (Nov. 16), Oklahoma (Nov. 20) and TCU (Nov. 30) as well as road trips to Baylor (Nov. 13) and Kansas (Nov. 23).
The Red Raiders return 13 letterwinners from last season's 14-18 squad and will welcome seven newcomers to the roster later this summer.
