Severe thunderstorms roll across South Plains Wednesday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Severe Thunderstorms are rapidly moving towards the I-27 corridor, including Lubbock and Plainview. If you can do so safely, it would be a good idea to put your car under safe shelter. Storms will also produce heavy rain, which could lead to minor flooding on area roadways.

Most of the area is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch through 5 a.m., with current warnings issued for Andrews, Archer, Baylor, Borden, Callahan, Cottle, Crosby, Dawson, Dickens, Eastland, Fisher, Floyd, Foard, Gaines, Garza, Hale, Hardeman, Haskell, Hockley, Howard, Jones, Kent, King, Knox, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Martin, Mitchell, Motley, Nolan, Scurry, Shackelford, Stephens, Stonewall, Taylor, Terry, Throckmorton, Wilbarger, Yoakum, Young.

The National Weather Service issued this statement at 10 p.m.:

National Weather Service Doppler radar has indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing destructive winds in excess of 70 mph. These storms were located along a line extending from Littlefield to Levelland to 12 miles west of Tokio or along a line extending from Littlefield to Levelland to plains...and moving southeast at 45 mph. 

Large hail, damaging winds and very heavy rains are expected with this storm. take cover in a substantial shelter.
