Disc golf team comes together to clean up Mae Simmons course

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

After Wednesday's storm, a group of disc golfers are coming together to clean up their home course.

Members of the Windriders team have been out since Thursday volunteering their own time to clean up the golf course at Mae Simmons Park.

So far they have removed about 100 fallen trees from the park. One player used his truck to tow fallen limbs and other objects from the trees that are still standing.

Windrider members say lending a helping hand is nothing new in their circle of friends

Volunteer Mike Bushell said, "A lot of guys out here are using their own tools their own gas their own time just coming together to cleanup. We have kids out here picking up trash. A couple from Midland even came out to help since they play this course so much."

The city is going to help assist with the remaining debris but cleanup could take weeks.

The disc golfers say they will continue to clean up but would welcome any extra help.
