All Texas Tech sports academically in good standing

From Texas Tech Athletics:

Texas Tech's emphasis on the educational progression of its student-athletes was acknowledged today as all 17 sports received passing marks on the annual Academic Progress Rate (APR) report that was issued by the NCAA.

"The NCAA annually tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through an academic assessment scale known as the Academic Performance Rate, or APR," said NCAA/Big 12 Faculty Representative Brian Shannon.  "The teams being recognized by the NCAA today are in the top 10% nationally in each sport based on multi-year APR rates from the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years. The student-athletes on these teams clearly fulfill the mission of excelling both athletically and academically."

All 17 sports at Texas Tech have met and exceeded the minimum mark of 930 that is the threshold for teams to attain without facing penalty from the NCAA. The three sport leaders for TTU included women's tennis (APR of 1000), women's soccer (APR of 990) and softball (APR 980). The highest APR score possible is 1,000.

Texas Tech's Women's Tennis team not only won a Big 12 Conference Championship this season but also demonstrated dedication to the classroom by earning a perfect APR score of 1000.

"We are very proud of our women's tennis student-athletes, not only for their accomplishments on the courts as Big 12 champions, but also in the classroom," remarked Shannon. "This national recognition for the team's multi-year APR rate reflects the team members' consistent dedication to their academic goals. They are champion student-athletes in every sense of the word."

"We are always excited about positive acknowledgements of the efforts our student-athletes make in the classroom and in the community," said Associate Athletics Director for Academics Felicia Martin.  "NCAA measures like APR are used just like an academic report card. Texas Tech is making the grade."
