From Texas Tech Athletics:

Randy Onwuasor (pronounced ahn-WAH-sore), a native of Inglewood, Calif., has signed a financial aid agreement to play basketball for Texas Tech University, announced head coach Tubby Smith.

"We believe that Randy adds some depth to our backcourt that we need," said Smith. "He has obviously had a good scholastic career. He is a very talented and very physical guard that can play both the point and shooting guard positions.

"I think he fits our style of play and is one of three incoming freshmen that really improves our recruiting class.  He also gives us a connection to California where we have had some success in the past in recruiting and we want to continue that in the future."

A four-year letterwinner on varsity at Inglewood High School in Inglewood, Calif., Onwuasor played for head coach Pat Roy. Inglewood has produced several NBA players including Paul Pierce, Reggie Theus, Harold Miner, Ralph Jackson and Jason Hart.

Onwuasor, a 6-3, 190-pound guard, was named the Ocean League's Most Outstanding Player as a senior, as well as First Team All-Ocean League and First Team All-Area. He averaged 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.7 steals per game, while leading Inglewood High School to the CIF Southern Sectional I-AA semifinals.

As a junior, Onwuasor led Inglewood High School to the 2012 Southern Section Division II-AA title and reached the CIF State Division II semifinals. It was Inglewood's first title since Pierce led to the Sentinels to the title in 1994. He was a First Team All-Ocean League selection, First Team All-Area and averaged 16.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game. He was also named First Team All-Wave by the Los Angeles Wave.

Onwuasor earned Second Team All-Ocean League honors as a sophomore after helping guide Inglewood to the CIF Division III-AA Elite Eight. The Sentinels also lost in the finals of the 2011 Southern Section Division III-A title game to Harvard-Westlake, 47-45.

Rated as a two-star recruit by ESPN, Onwuasor is listed as the 49th best player in the state of California and the 83rd best guard in the nation. He was also recruited by LSU, St. Louis, Miami (Ohio) and Cal State-Fullerton.

Onwuasor joins a 2013 recruiting class that includes New Mexico Junior College transfer Robert Turner (Augusta, Ga.), Seton Academy's Alex Foster (Chicago, Ill.) and Copperas Cove High School's Cory Scott (Copperas Cove, Texas).
