This week, Governor Rick Perry signed a bill protecting "Merry Christmas" and other holiday sayings and symbols from legal challenges.
Perry pointed out that it is a shame a bill like this is even needed. He also pointed out that freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion.
I agree with Perry that we've gone too far in our schools protecting our children from religion. In fact, I'd say we've actually gone out of our way to discourage Christian views in order to protect other religious views.
Having said that, I applaud Perry for standing up for religious freedom for all Texans. But this bill does even more than that.
It protects citizens from their own government. And it stands behind the Constitution, which is something we haven't seen coming out of Washington lately.
