Mayra Guadalupe Almaraz was born in Rio Grande, Zacatecas, Mexico, but grew up in the small town of Seagraves, Texas. She is the daughter of Vidal and Crescencia Almaraz. She is the youngest of seven kids. She has three older sisters and two older brothers. Growing up in a small town meant that she would most likely play every sport. Growing up, she ran cross country, played basketball, was a cheerleader, ran track and field, and played tennis. She was involved in the Gifted and Talented Program, Future Teachers of America, and the National Honor Society. This year, Mayra will be graduating as Salutatorian with a GPA of 92.8. She will also be graduating with honors and with a distinguished diploma. After she graduates, she will be attending South Plains College for two years and will transfer to Texas Tech University to pursue her career to become a physical therapist. "When I leave high school, I want to be remembered as the girl that motivated kids and the one that always had a smile on her face. I also want to be remembered as a good kid by the teachers, the girl that always excelled in the classroom." Mayra Almaraz hopes for a bright future. Mayra sends a shout out to all of the class of 2013. "I wouldn't trade y'all and the memories we've made since Pre-K. I'm glad I went through this journey with y'all!"
