Surgery provides incentive to quit smoking

You may want to think twice about smoking if you are about to go under the knife.

A study at Yale compared surgery risks and outcomes between smokers and non-smokers. Researchers found that smokers needed more blood transfusions during surgery and ended up with more serious complications post-surgery.

The research also showed that avoiding smoking for just a few days before surgery can greatly improve your body's reaction to the operation.
