'Big Brain' project creates detailed 3-D image for study

Posted: Updated:

Scientists in Canada and Germany have created the world's most in-depth look at the human brain…ever.

It's called the "big brain" project. Thanks to one 65 year old woman who donated her brain to science, they have been able to surgically divide that brain into 7,400 slices, each slice thinner than a strand of hair. They then rebuild it to create a 3-D image of the brain, with every microscopic detail.

The big brain project will now be offered to various medical communities for free, in hopes that it will lead to new discoveries among scientists.
