Xcel Energy is providing more power to South Plains residents while looking to save them money.
Friday, the presented their fourth generating station unit at the Jones plant, just west of Buffalo Springs Lake.
Xcel Energy spokesperson Wes Reeves said this new generator can save millions of dollars in fuel costs because they don't have to keep this unit spinning in reserve.
"When the wind energy - and we have a ton of wind energy coming on - drops off, suddenly we can bring these plants on in 10 minutes and make up for that loss."
The unit has added about 170 additional megawatts of capacity at the plant.
Reeves also said it saves money because it runs on natural gas which has become cheaper over the last few years.
