COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur) - South Carolina has its first defensive back on board for the 2014 class. And the Gamecocks had to come from behind to land him, TheBigSpur.com reported.

Four-star CB Wesley Green is the Gamecocks' first defensive back commitment in the class.

Four-star cornerback Wesley Green (Lithonia, Ga./Martin Luther King Jr.) committed to South Carolina Friday over offers from Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Miami and Auburn among many others.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect commits to the Gamecocks fresh off a visit to the South Carolina campus last weekend.

Green was recruited to the Gamecocks by defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward, but he also has a strong relationship with secondary coach Grady Brown.

The Gamecocks again got an assist from 2014 linebacker commitment Bryson Allen-Williams (Ellenwood, Ga./Cedar Grove) who worked Green hard as well.

Clemson initially held the lead for Green, but following a visit to Tennessee he put the Vols on top. After that visit wore off, Green actually named a top two of South Carolina and Clemson before he had ever visited Columbia. Green finally made it to the South Carolina campus after having to cancel a couple of trips and ultimately committed to the Gamecocks.

Green is ranked the No. 27 cornerback in the country and No. 31 prospect in Georgia by 247Sports with a rating of 90. In the industry-generated 247Composite, Green is considered the No. 18 cornerback, No. 179 overall prospect and No. 15 prospect in Georgia with a rating of .9234.

Dylan Thompson threw for three touchdowns and No. 24 South Carolina's maligned defense stood strong on a fourth-quarter goal line stand to topple No. 6 Georgia 38-35 on Saturday night.
No. 24 South Carolina's defense showed it's not nearly as bad as it looked two weeks ago - and maybe that No. 6 Georgia isn't the runaway favorite in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division.

Georgia can establish itself as a top-tier beast if it gets by South Carolina this weekend - and USC would drop to 0-2 in the league with a loss. Tennessee travels to Oklahoma, where Coach Bob Stoops doesn't believe the SEC is all-powerful.
