Utility board members approve LP&L budget

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Members of the Electric Utility Board voted to approve the budget for LP&L on Wednesday afternoon.

In an 8 to 1 vote, they passed the budget for just under $220 million, which will now be presented to the Lubbock City Council.

Members also had a brief discussion on how costs are allocated across city departments, from one department to another - specifically why money was taken from their budget for the departments of the city council, city manager and city attorney.

Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson says he is happy with the board's decision to approve the budget Wednesday, since it's too far into the year to change the budget formula concerning allocations.

"I give the board nothing but credit," Robertson said. "I think it was a wise decision. Let's get this going forward, get the budget approved, and that literally buys us a year to start working on this issue to come up with a better method."

The city council's next meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
