Monday, Lubbock National Bank released the city's economic index for May.
It currently sits at 135 which is more than an 8% increase from this time last year.
A rising index means a growing and expanding local economy.
According to the index, auto sales were up by 12% compared to May of 2012 and housing construction went up by 45%.
Lubbock's unemployment rate has decreased slightly compared to this time last year.
