Human remains found in Dawson County

Provided by Dawson County Sheriff's Office

On June 29 at approximately 8:45 a.m. the Dawson County Sheriff's Office received a call from a local resident stating he had found what he believed to be human remains across the road from his land, located in western Dawson County. Officers with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office arrived and determined that the skeletal remains were in fact human.

A death investigation was begun at that time with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, and a forensic anthropologist. A shallow grave was located at the scene. A Dawson County Justice of the Peace conducted an inquest, and ordered an autopsy to be conducted. The remains were transported to Lubbock for the autopsy.

It is unknown at this time the age, sex, or race of the individual, or the time frame the body had been at the location. Further information may be disclosed pending the autopsy results. No further information is available at this time.
