LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The South Plains Food Bank is teaming up with the "From the Heart" family program to help harvest vegetables on Wednesday.

Starting at 9 a.m., volunteers will start working on the organization's grub farm.

The grub farm helps grow locally-sustainable vegetables to help support people who use the food bank.

Youth Volunteer Coordinator Lisa Stratton says the event not only helps feed families, but also teaches children how to give back to the community.

"We're gonna come out and help them harvest some vegetables, do some weeding, just kind of help them out with whatever they need done around here," Stratton said.

The organization encourages families to come out and spend time together for a good cause.

The grub farm is located at east 47th Street and Locus Avenue.
