Lightning sparks house fire in SW Lubbock

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lightning was to blame for an early morning house fire in Southwest Lubbock.

Fire crews responding to the scene said lightning struck a tree in the 4400 block of 79th Street, just after 4 a.m. Thursday.

The lightning sparked a fire in a tree that quickly spread to the roof of a home. When firefighters arrived, the roof had collapsed into the attic. It took firefighters awhile to get the flames extinguished because of the threat of lightning in the area.

All occupants of the home were evacuated without injury.

We'll continue to follow this developing story and have more information as soon as it becomes available.
