Lubbock patriots show their colors at Fourth on Broadway

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Downtown Lubbock was decked out in red, white and blue and the sound of patriotic slogans filled the air.

"Happy Fourth!" was on everybody's lips.

What's your favorite thing about the Fourth of July? One man summed it up: "The food, the fireworks and just the fun."

Thousands came dressed in their Independence Day best as they waved American flags and cheered on their favorite floats.

Familiar faces, patriotic pooches and other festive four-legged friends lined the street of Broadway.

And everybody got a good view, even if they didn't get a front row seat for America's birthday.

Everybody was having a good time, but for some, this Independence Day meant a little bit more.

"I served my country so it means a lot," one veteran said.

"It's nice to be here in America and be free," said another.

"It's just fun. It's just a day to spend with our family and to enjoy everything that our countrymen have done for us."
