Regional pro bowling event returns to South Plains Lanes

Some of the biggest names in professional bowling will be on hand to battle for the projected $8,000 first place prize when the Professional Bowlers Association returns to Lubbock's South Plains Lanes for the third annual PBA Lubbock Super Regional Southwest Open, presented by Track, Friday-Sunday, July 12-14.

PBA Tour Champions Chris Barnes, from Double Oak, Texas, Wes Malott, of Pflugerville, Texas, and Michael Fagan, now living in Arlington, Texas, headline the outstanding field of over 100 entrants. Also in the field will be Nathan Bohr, from Wichita, Kan., a three-time Southwest Region Bowler of the Year, and recent qualifier for Team USA, and DJ Archer, member of the PBA League's Motown Muscle. Also entered is 13-time Southwest Region titlist David Anthony of Austin, Texas.

Activities for the Lubbock Open get underway Friday afternoon with a two-hour practice session from 3:30-5:30 p.m., where fans can collect autographs and take photos with their favorite PBA Regional Tour bowlers. The official PBA Pro-Am takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, giving grassroots amateur men, women, youth and senior bowlers an opportunity to bowl alongside PBA Regional Tour stars.

Competition begins Saturday with all bowlers bowling two six-game qualifying blocks. The A squad bowlers, will start at 8 a.m., then return for their second six-game block at 6:15 p.m. B Squad players will bowl their qualifying blocks at 11:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. The field will then be cut to the top sixteen players who will return Sunday morning for 16 games of match play at 8:30 a.m. The top four bowlers will then advance to the stair step finals, immediately following the match play.
