Former Wilcox Co. star Dennard arrested on DUI suspicion

LINCOLN, NE (WALB) -

Former Wilcox County football star and current New England Patriot Alfonzo Dennard has had another run-in with the law.

According to reports, Dennard was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Thursday in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he starred at the University of Nebraska.

The former Wilcox Co. star was pulled over around 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning, and arrested on DUI charges.

Dennard was not jailed.

Instead he was taken to a detox center, and has not been charged.

A police spokesperson says Dennard is also accused of refusing a chemical test and a driving infraction.

This is not the first time Dennard has found himself in trouble with the law in Lincoln.

The Patriots' CB was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years probation in April for punching a police officer last year.

Dennard was expected to compete for a starting spot at CB with the Patriots this season.

The team released this statement regarding Dennard's arrest:

""The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard's arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident."
