Earlier this week, Texas Governor Rick Perry announced he will not seek re-election as the state's top politician. That brings an end to his record-setting tenure as Texas governor, sets the stage for a Texas-sized political shake up and opens the door for Perry himself to make another run at the presidency. And I think all of those things are positive.
I agree with Perry's decision to walk away because Texas is overdue for some fresh political leadership. And I'm already encouraged with some of the viable candidates that are not part of the Austin insider group.
But even though I haven't always agreed with Governor Perry, overall, he was a good leader for Texas. He should be commended for his approach to supporting smaller government, supporting small businesses and working to keep Washington out of our lives.
And if he were to land in the White House in 2016, I hope he stays true to his Texas values.
