Viagra for...babies??

Posted: Updated:

Viagra is a medicine widely known here in the US, but a study done in New Zealand is asking women to give it a try.

The reasoning behind this study is to help babies who are not growing properly inside the womb. Right now, the only known medical treatment for unborn children is to be delivered early. Doctors say Viagra could improve the prognosis for the babies.

"It increases blood supply to the pelvis in men, but also it's likely that's the same in women so what we're hoping is that we're going to be able to increase the blood supply to a uterus, a womb," says Katie Groom, the lead researcher.

This study was done after a previous study showed that Viagra could increase the size of very small babies in the womb.

Though researchers encouraged pregnant women in this study to take Viagra, they discourage any other women taking the medicine on their own since the dosage in the study is different from what is sold in your pharmacy.
