LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The best of the best six-man athletes in the South Plains will be competing against athletes from east Texas in the annual all-star games held in Lubbock.

The Division II football game kicks things off Friday evening at Frenship High School's Peoples Bank Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The West squad is coached by Shay Avants of Robert Lee against Eddie Gallegoes from Jonesboro for the East.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for the kids," Avants said. "I played in some of these all-star games back in the stone ages and had a blast. Now to be here coaching in one is awfully special."

On Saturday, basketball takes the spotlight at Lubbock Christian University's Rip Griffin Center. The girl's game tips off at 1 p.m. as Jimmy Avery from Grady coaches the West against Jym Dennis from Rochelle for the East. The boy's game follows immediately after with Brad Thompson from Rankin coaching the West squad against John McGee of Harrold for the East.

Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the Division I football game concludes the weekend festivities as Throckmorton's Mike Reed coaches the West against Tim Trotter of Walnut Springs for the East. The game will also be played at Frenship High School's Peoples Bank Stadium.
