When: Tuesday, July 23 4pm-8pm
Where: Parking Lot on Ave K between 9th St & 10th St
Details: Join the Lubbock County Democratic Party on Tuesday, July 23rd as we defend the right of our citizens to vote! The new Texas Voter ID law represents voter suppression, voter intimidation, and a poll tax all rolled into one awful law. Our purpose at the Right to Vote Rally is to demonstrate these problems with the Texas voter ID law through example and through expert speakers.
From 4pm-6pm, we will send test cases and witnesses over to the Lubbock DPS office to attempt to get the free Election Identification Cards (EICs) that are a part of the new law. We will test several different scenarios to see what happens.
From 6pm-8pm, we will have speakers about Voter ID, live music from Jenni Dale Lord, and free drinks and snacks. We will also introduce the Voter Protection Team -- a group of local attorneys who have agreed to be "on call" during elections to help citizens overcome challenges to their Constitutionally guaranteed right to vote.
Additionally, every Lubbock Democratic Club (including Battleground Texas) will be represented with a table at the event.
We will also have an opportunity to meet and get to know a Democratic Party candidate for Texas 19th Congressional District.
