FLOYDADA, TX (KCBD) - Wind energy is making a big impact in Floyd County, an impact that may be growing even more in the near future.
A $6 million, 18,000-megawatt transmission line project is set to finish this year. It will take wind energy from West Texas to Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and Austin.
Justin Jaworski with the Economic Development Corporation in Floydada says wind energy will do for Floyd County what oil and gas did for the Permian Basin.
"Right now we're looking at three projects in Floyd County in the neighborhood of 300 megawatts each. They're usually about $300 million per, so about a million dollars a megawatt is a very significant capitol investment for the area," Jaworski said.
Jaworski says his office has worked hard to make sure Floyd County is at the forefront of wind energy development.
