Crazy Hoe Farms in Floydada, changing the way people think about farming

Posted: Updated:
FLOYDADA, TX (KCBD) -

A Floydada business with an interesting name is changing the way people think about farming.

Crazy Hoe Farms and its owner Amanda Watson are growing organic vegetables and raising fish using a technique called aquaponics.

The fish and vegetables are sold to restaurants in Lubbock, and Amanda says she has had a hard time keeping up with all of the demand.

Amanda sells her vegetables at the Lubbock Farmer's Market on the second Saturday of every month.

She says the process is 100 percent sustainable.

"Aquaponics is hydroponics and aqua culture together. The principle is like a river - you have fish, you have plants and it's just an ecosystem that sustains itself."

Amanda says the name was inspired by summers working on her father's farm hoeing cotton, and by doubters who called her crazy for moving back to her home town.
