United Supermarkets, LLC (United) is again partnering with Lubbock area schools to host "Project SOS: Supply our Students," a school supply drive for students in need. From July 26 through August 12, guests may purchase school supplies and drop them into barrels located at the front of any Lubbock location of United Supermarkets, Market Street or Amigos. Additionally, guests can make a cash donation during checkout.
"School supplies are essential to a child's success in the classroom, and the reality is that many families in our community are unable to purchase these items for their children," said Shelby Crews, community relations manager for United Supermarkets, LLC. "The money and supplies we collect will help ensure all Lubbock children have the proper tools to learn and develop in the classroom alongside their peers."
The drive will kick off July 24 at 10 a.m. at the 50th Street and Ave. Q location of United Supermarkets with a special shopping spree involving superintendents of participating Lubbock school districts. Each school receiving donations will directly issue them to families and children in need.
"We are thankful for the support provided by United Supermarkets and look forward to providing these donations to students who might otherwise not have school supplies," said Dr. Berhl Robertson, Jr., superintendent for the Lubbock Independent School District. "Being well prepared for school is essential to learning and these donated supplies are an important element in student success."
Schools that will benefit from the drive include Cooper, Frenship, Lubbock, Roosevelt and Slaton ISDs.
