AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - Police say one person has died in the crash of a small plane in a Texas Panhandle neighborhood.
National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Eric Weiss says the accident happened Thursday morning as the pilot attempted to take off from Tradewind Airport.
He says the pilot reported the left engine of a Piper PA-30 wasn't working properly. Authorities said the plane crashed in a yard by a mobile home.
Weiss said there was one person onboard. Police spokeswoman Tammy Chervenka (sher-VEN'-kuh) confirms one death but had no immediate details. She says the crash happened near a highway interchange within the Amarillo city limits.
Weiss said a National Transportation Safety Board investigator is en route.
Further details weren't immediately available.
