(RNN) - The British royal family and the world welcomed the birth of Prince George of Cambridge. The first son of Prince William and Princess Catherine was born Monday and is third in line to the throne.

Former U.S. Congressman and current New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner admitted to new sexting allegations this week. Weiner also said he would not be dropping out of the mayor's race.

A passenger train in northwestern Spain derailed Wednesday. According to investigators, the train was going too fast as it made a turn. A total of 80 people were killed and more than 90 passengers injured.

A natural gas well that caught fire Tuesday was extinguished by Thursday. The Walter Oil & Gas-owned rig did not cause oil sheen in the Gulf of Mexico. The fire eventually stopped because sediment and sand clogged the well. The 44 workers on the rig were evacuated, and no one was injured.

George Zimmerman resurfaced as news reports indicated he helped a family escape an overturned vehicle. Zimmerman made a statement to responding officers but did not witness the accident. The family later canceled a planned press conference scheduled by Zimmerman's defense team.

NSA intelligence leaker Edward Snowden will stay in Russia for the foreseeable future. Snowden has filed for temporary asylum in Russia and remains at the Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow. He is not permitted to travel since the U.S. revoked his passport June 23.
