An increasing number of Lubbock residents are looking to set up a payment plan for these high summer electric bills, but frustrations are continuing to grow.
Setting up a payment plan with LP&L is free if you use their automated system over the phone, but they charge $30 if you speak with a customer service representative.
Electric Utility Board Chairman Gail Kring says that when citizens judge the policies of LP&L, they must compare the utility to companies that are making a profit.
LP&L says the $30 fee has been in place for over a year, long before this recent rate increase.
The LP&L web site contains detailed instructions on how to set up a payment plan for free using their automated system, using a voice option or a touch tone phone.
