Officials are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home Tuesday afternoon in Slaton.
Five local crews responded just before 2 p.m. on FM 2150, near Hwy 84.
Homeowner Mary Lee Edmonds, 86, said didn't notice the flames until she saw a crowd of people in her front yard. When she turned around, she saw a fire nearly 30 feet tall.
A trucker passing by spotted the fire and called for help.
Slaton Asst. Fire Chief Keith Davis says the fire started somewhere near the garage but says they haven't determined the cause yet.
Crews say the house is a total loss.
Neither Mary Lee nor her husband Charles, also 86, were in the house at the time of the fire.
The Edmonds are in poor health and have moved into a camper in the storage garage behind their house.
Mary Lee is receiving treatments for cancer and Charles is diabetic.
