Home destroyed by fire on Colgate Street

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Three Lubbock residents are without a home now after losing theirs in a fire Saturday night.

It happened in the 2700 block of Colgate Street just before 10 p.m. Saturday.

Fire investigators say it looks like the fire was caused by either a candle or smoking material, and was accidental.

One of the residents, a 53-year-old female, suffered some minor burns and smoke inhalation when she tried to go back into the home to get the flames out.

There were no working smoke detectors in the house.

Lubbock fire officials want to remind you to keep your smoke detectors up to date and make sure they're working.

Also, never go inside of a home on fire once you have escaped.
