The way Texas funds public schools is unconstitutional. That was the ruling by an Austin judge on Wednesday afternoon.
The ruling came after six weeks of testimony in the "Robin Hood" lawsuit trial. More than 300 districts, including Lubbock sued the state. The judge says the state must stop funding education within one year if the 2005 Legislature does not find a new solution.
Attorney General Greg Abbott announced immediately that the state would appeal Wednesday's ruling.
